HandyBandi field technician at work in Chicago

Handyman Jobs Chicago: Careers at HandyBandi

We're building a field team in Chicago. Without corporate theater and blah-blah. The work, for the pay. If you fix things for a living, keep reading.

Why Work With HandyBandi

Competitive Pay

Chicago handymen average $54,607–$59,212 per year ($26–$28/hr). Top earners clear $71,000+. Pay scales with skill and role — not tenure. Source: BLS, Handyman job outlook 2026.

Flexible Schedule

You pick your days. HandyBandi runs on booked jobs, not office hours. This isn't a 9-to-5 position at a cubicle farm.

Consistent Work

The skilled trades market is running a 500,000+ worker deficit nationally. Your phone will not be quiet — we generate the leads, you fix the things.

Tool Support

Details confirmed per role. No one's expected to show up empty-handed, but we're not sending you to war without supplies either.

Paid Training

New work types, new skills. You don't stagnate — useful if you're a Universal Handyman who wants to move into electrical or plumbing work.

Room to Grow

Lead tech. Senior tech. Operations. The org chart has upward movement — unlike most companies that say this and mean nothing by it.

The Market (Why This Matters Now)

The trade jobs Chicago pool is shrinking. By 2030, 2.1 million skilled trades positions could go unfilled nationally — JLL, April 2026. Electrician employment is projected to grow 9.5% through 2034, triple the national average. Plumber shortage: 550,000 short by 2027.

Construction jobs Chicago face similar pressure. Over 1 in 5 construction workers is 55+. They're leaving. The work isn't. Chicago's housing stock — old condos, two-flats, century-old wiring — guarantees demand for decades.

What We're Looking For

Field Team: Must Have

Driver's license + reliable vehicle. Non-negotiable — Chicago doesn't have job sites on the L train.
1+ year of hands-on home repair or trades experience. Not a portfolio — actual tools, actual repairs.
Basic tools. Bring what a working tech has. Specifics confirmed per role.
Able to pass a background check.
English sufficient to communicate with clients.
Based in Chicago or suburbs. We cover Lincoln Park, Logan Square, Wicker Park, Lakeview, Evanston, Oak Park.

Field Team: Bonus (Actual Value)

Illinois license for providing plumbing services. Gets you into the senior roles faster.
Bilingual Spanish. Chicago's market makes this a genuine competitive edge.
Own truck or van. Useful. Not blocking if you have a car.
OSHA 10 certification.

What a Day at HandyBandi Looks Like

You are doing home repair jobs Chicago-style: a condo in Lakeview at 9 AM, a two-flat in Logan Square at noon, maybe a quick TV mount in Wicker Park by 3. The jobs are pre-scheduled. You show, fix, move on.

Chicago's housing stock is old. That means variety — and occasionally, surprises behind the drywall. Senior techs handle the surprises. Entry-level roles are routed accordingly.

Electrician Jobs Chicago: What's Driving Demand

Electrical services in Chicago are hot for a structural reason: nearly 30% of union electricians are near retirement nationally. 81,000 electrician openings projected annually through 2034 (BLS). In Illinois, top electricians earn $85,000+. HandyBandi's scope is residential — fixtures, outlets, fans — which means faster work and consistent volume, not years-long commercial projects.

Plumber Jobs Chicago: The Numbers

Plumber jobs Chicago benefit from the same shortage math: the U.S. will be 550,000 plumbers short by 2027. Plumbing-focused handymen in Chicago range $47,000–$67,000/year. Licensed plumbers with contractor status can clear $150,000+. HandyBandi scope: residential service calls. In and out. Without months-long commercial jobs.
